'来ぬ人を まつほの浦の夕凪に 焼くや藻塩の 身もこがれつつ' (Like the salt seaweed, burning in the evening calm. On Matsuo's shore, all my being is aglow, waiting for one who does not come.)
Japanese Collection Curator Yasuyo Ohtsuka's favourite is this 'waka' poem by Fujiwara no Teika from the anthology 'One Hundred Poets, One Hundred Poems' (頭書繪抄百人一首), 1673. Shelfmark: Or.75.h.3
Yasuyo: 'The bay of Matsuo is one of my favourite places in Japan, because it reminds me of my childhood walking with my mum on the seaside and looking at the sea.'
